In today’s New York Times, David Sanger and Peter Baker report on the Obama administration’s to deploy more troops to Afghanistan, pushing the number to well over 100,000 by the end of May.
“Success, the administration officials said in their fullest discussion yet of the thinking behind Mr. Obama’s approach, depends in large part on the cooperation of an Afghan government whose legitimacy is more in question than ever in the wake of elections marred by extensive fraud.”
Too bad those who made the statement and those who reported it didn’t think to demand (or seem to care about) realistic definitions of success because the readers sure as hell did.
*Oddly enough, that in the 30 minutse since posting this, the NY Times headline went from Obama calling for more troops in Afghanishtan to the administration scheduling the pullout for 2011. Hm… foulplay?
