One of my favorite bands is the Sheffield-based Reverend & the Makers who did the great track, “Heavyweight Champion” back in 2007 (in addition to loads of other stellar tracks). I always thought they’d be a shoe-in for American success, but unless I missed some commercial soundtrack work of theirs or somber mood songs to play at the end of a Grey’s Anatomy episode (which seemed to work wonders for odd-tempoed singer/songwriter Regina Spektor) or something, they never made it to the larger circuit this far West. Maybe the lyrics of bitter reality in most of their songs is just too English for America? Anyways, I was scrounging around for old dogtagged favorites on Grooveshark, and came across this track — “No Soap in a Dirty War” — after not hearing it for a few months.
Working on some other things at the moment, so in the spirit of posting regularly, I share this.
