The Breeders “Saints”
Some of my best memories of living in DC are of the days during the first year that I moved out here and shared a house out in the burbs of Northern Virginia with 5 awesome roommates (not including Squirrel Master). Any time we get a day of beautiful, mostly warm weather, I’m able to picture it and it feels as though we never left. The house had a long, narrow balcony that was just enough to fit some chairs and a few small tables. When the weather finally warmed up, it became our regular spot to hang out. A fixture of the summer. When we’d all start making our way home from work, we’d fix a plate of dinner, grab a beer, and then sit out there till the sun went down and the mosquitoes came out. And on the weekends, we could spend all day out there, burning up from too much sun.
That’s one thing I love about DC – the summers. Even when it gets so hot you sweat clean through your clothes or when you could puke from the humidity. Patio seating opens up at the bars. Lots of great bands roll through town. They screen a bunch of outdoor movies around town. And of course, roadtrips! There’s always something going on because we spend way too long cooped up indoors during the winter months. This is our joyous escape! And this summer already promises to be another good one, especially now that there are plans to go forth with the annual Johneroo camping trip!
