Day #8: Miami Horror – “I Look to You” (feat. Kimbra)
There’s this part in The Breakfast Club where Allison (Ally Sheedy) declares, real matter-of-factly, that “when you grow up, your heart dies.” That movie became immortalized by cynical teenagers everywhere the way cynical teenagers once immortalized Rebel Without a Cause some thirty years before them. I don’t remember if i agreed with it all that much. My childhood was a pretty happy one, and besides, I felt like if I was going to be relating to any of John Hughes’ teenagers, it would most likely be Samantha Baker of Sixteen Candles. Well, except for the whole eager hot senior thing, his Porsche, and you know, people forgetting my birthday. Regardless, I am happy to report to you angsty kids out there that many of us didn’t turn out to be a bunch of dispassionate schmucks when we became adults after all. Pretty awesome, huh?
But see, now we’re the adults looking at you kids. My friends and family are just starting to raise kids of their own and we’re all giddy with (as yet) unadulterated enthusiasm and optimism for the world’s littlest newcomers. We’re starting to think of all the things we can show them about this place that’s so fresh to them. To wonder what they’ll do with all that knowledge and those experiences. What they will be like as they get older. I think Baby T is going to be the most interesting of all.
On that note, I’m off to Canada for the weekend. Blog posts will resume on Monday.
