Day #152: LCD Soundsystem – “I Can Change”
The documentary of LCD Soundsystem’s last days, Shutup and Play the Hits, is making rounds one-night-only screenings in indie theaters across the country this summer. In DC, tickets were already sold out for the show at E Street Cinema, forcing an earlier time slot to be added.
I’d prefer not to mourn the past, especially since frontman James Murphy has kept it real since the band’s break-up, co-running the New York label, DFA Records, which manages like-minded indie electropop greats such as The Rapture, Hercules & Love Affair, Holy Ghost!, Woolfy, YACHT, and… wait for it… Hot Chip. (That’ll make sense in the next sentence). And as much as I loved LCD Soundsytem, I’ll get my fix instead when Murphy does his DJ set alongside Sleigh Bells and Hot Chip at Merriweather later next month. I just hope we get close enough to blow him a big ol’ kiss (and please don’t take any of that out of context when repeating).
