Day #170: Jimi Hendrix – “Star Spangled Banner”
Here we are now, middle of the summer. One thing I really love about summers in DC is watching the July 4th fireworks. If you can manage a balcony view and are able to withstand the ferocious humidity that will have you sweating through your clothes, you can watch fireworks shows going off all over the city.
Phil and I spent the day with a good number of friends. During the first half of our adventures — a cookout hosted by Elizabeth and her awesome mom — I was sitting in the livingroom looking at all these friends of mine who have now come to know each other over the last few years. Who became part of each others’ lives, and I think Ethan Watters’s whole Urban Tribe concept finally makes sense. For me at least, these kids (some were absent from the scene) are like a real second family. And, that’s not the beer talking (yeah for moderation!), nor the misty-eyed sentimentality of Independence Day in the District.
How Are You?
